    I Spencer Jarnaginof the state of Tennesseedo hereby state that I have been attending to [unclear: causes [cases]] in law and [unclear: equity] in the court of Tennesseeand circuit courts of the United Statesat Knoxville, as said causes [cases] arose, since the year 1821 [added: for cherokeepeople] I [unclear: performed] such services as the attorney for the Nation by which, as her public officer I was retained I do further declare said Nation has never paid me any thing [anything] for said services, nor has any one [anyone] done so for her. The sum of two hundred and fifty dollars a year I consider reasonable compensation, tho' it is less than is usually charged for similar services rendered to citizens of the United States.
