    Washington City DC June 20, 1839

    To H. P. King
    Indian Town Sir,

    The Cherokeebusiness is undergoing an examination by the Commissioners of Indian Affairs how long I will be required to remain is uncertain am inclined to think I will be able to reach home by the 15 of next month, Collect what money you can and discharge[deleted: d] the debts against the stores in the nation, investigations will be of advantage to the Claimants should the claim be investigated probable the government will pay none until all is examined in relation to ginsang [ginseng] to keep a correct account of all recd [received] and of whom purchased, gave directions how to manage it --

    On the return of the teams have the timber hauled for the saw mill and shingled. Inform the Indians I am well and will return home as soon as I can furnish mother such things as she may need say to her I am well and will return home as soon as I can give my respects &c [et cetera], and say to Benjamin Parksthat I have collected a part of his pension will collect the balance on my return
