Sir,
I would respectfully call your attention to the subject of the fund arrising [arising] from the sale of Cherokeeproperty. The Agents appointed to collect and sell Indian property made a report thereof to the Commissioners, and they signed receipts to the agency for the amount of money corresponding with those reports by [but] refused to [unclear: pay] 203.209.236. & 242 you will [unclear: perceive] all the property reported to have been sold by the Agents in MaconNC [North Carolina]has been accounted for to the Commissioners and they have receipts for a sufficient amount of money to satisfy all the claims of Cherokeeswhose property has been sold This money was by them turned over to Mr CruttendenUS[unclear: disbg] Agt [Agent] and the amount turned over to him they reported to the office of IA [Indian Affairs] a sum corresponding with their report has been paid over by said [unclear: disbg] Agt [Agent] to [deleted: Mr] [added: David] Kurtz[unclear: disbg] Agt [Agent] for the use of the claimants to suppose that the above sum is not sufficient to satisfy all the claims is to presume that the return of the Commissioner is in-correct as there can be no deficiency if their report be correct and it would seem at least good authority for the payment of the small amount asked for.
